A SHORT HISTORY:

The first rehearsal of what would become the St. Lawrence Chorus, Sweet Adelines International was held in November 1977, in Potsdam, NY, under the direction of Linda Tracy, who at the time was a student at Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam.  St. Lawremce Chorus won the 2006 first place small chorus award under the direction of Genine Kroll

The St. Lawrence Chorus was granted its charter, which includes the right to perform in public as "Sweet Adelines" by the Sweet Adelines International organization on January 25, 1980. Twenty members are required for a chorus to charter, and of those original twenty, three remain singing with us. They are Beverly Kearing, Carolyn Shelmidine and Patricia White.

We participated in our first competition in 1981 and came in last among those singing. There was nowhere to go but up! We have since competed many times, winning 1st Place Small Chorus in 1988, Most Improved Chorus 1988, and 3rd Place Small Chorus in 1989, all under the direction of Linda Tracy. In 1993, we again won 1st Place Small Chorus under the direction of Carol Reed, who was awarded the Novice Director Trophy.

We won 1st Place Small Chorus in 2006 under the direction of Genine Gehret, and now 1st Place Small Chorus 2010, under the direction of Genine Gehret and Donna Kleist direction and also 2010 Most improved chorus award.
